New Year’s resolutions, we all make them, but who actually sticks to them?
Whether it’s to lose a couple of pounds or a few stone, quit smoking, maybe find a better job or spend more devoted time with friends and family, the majority of us make a resolution. According to brainstatistics.com a website which collects data from academic sources, only 72.6% of people actually maintain their resolution through the first week, which leaves a whopping 27.4% of failures already! I believe this statistical information is evidencing something very important, we need to defeat the repetitive generic resolutions and come up with some contemporary and intriguing new ones that shy away from the ideas of losing weight, quitting a bad habit or being nice to family members for a week. We need current concepts such as learning how to dance, sing, cook or learn a party trick, read an autobiography, search for your new favourite comedian, play an instrument, go to a museum every once in a while, just something that seems more like an exciting goal rather than an undesirable burden. Maybe that way we can finally achieve some worthy statistics and never again see the day that only 9.2% of the population felt they succeeded in their New Years resolution. I found a couple of interesting resolutions made by celebrities this year, some of which consisted of things as simple as ‘drink more water’, ‘relax more’, ‘read the news’ and ‘get involved or even fund an organisation I feel strongly about’, see, it’s as simple as that. Celebrities such as Miley Cyrus and Kate Hudson vowed to stay more predictable this year with their resolutions and promised they were looking forward to a healthier body and mind in 2017.
