Last week the Eurovision song contest graced our screens for 17 29 the 62nd time, and as a huge surprise to all of us in the United Kingdom, we did not come last. Although 48 points is nothing massive to celebrate, we did not finish with “nil points” so let’s take that victory. Whether you take it seriously, watch it religiously, or couldn’t care less, it is hard to miss, and I can’t help but watch it every year. Israel took the top spot this year with an incredible 529 points as their elected artist Netta sung the winning song “Toy”. The song included a fiery pop beat alongside a lot of unusual noises and chicken impressions, if you haven’t already seen it you must take a look! Ironically the video has significantly more dislikes than likes on YouTube with 338K hating the song and 171K loving it (at time of writing 16/05). I personally don’t mind the song, it is very different in style to what I would usually listen to but it was not awful. However, Netta’s unique song was not the only eye-opener of the night, as when SuRie from the UK performed, she was bombarded by a stage invader with a political agenda who grabbed her microphone to spurt out comments about Nazis. Speaking about her stage invader SuRie told This Morning that “there was no time to feel fear” and she only realised he was on stage when he was directly next to her face. She was given the opportunity to perform again but she chose not to, she explained “you work up to that moment, you don’t get to do the 100m sprint at the Olympics again because your shoelace is untied, you have that one shot, and that was my moment and we didn’t need to repeat that, everyone was very proud of the recovery, we did not need to do it again”. Well we loved it SuRie! Image: http://www.scmp.com/news/world/europe/article/2145888/israels-netta-barzilai-wins-eurovision-chicken-dance-moves-then
