After the recent EU referendum vote and result, David Cameron predictably stepped down as PM, but now only two short months after, he has resigned as an MP and therefore fully from British politics altogether.
Although he says he wishes to have some sort of future involvement in the government, this seems unlikely, as regardless of which result you wished for in Brexit, he will always and mostly only be remembered at the PM who took us out of the European Union. So what do we all think of him stepping down? Well, personally, I think he was just bored of bad press and needed an excuse to escape the public eye, ironically this announcement gained him more of what he may not have wanted. I firmly believe however that even though he may have thought he would have acted as a ‘distraction on the back bench’ to Theresa May, it may be more to do with the fact that some of their opinions and policy ideas clash significantly. Although when asked about the possible tension, Cameron explained he thought the new PM had ‘got off to a cracking start’ whether you believe him or not, that’s up to you. Also, when questioned about the reason he left, and how he believes the public viewed his departure concerning Brexit, he stated ‘the country made a decision’ although he added it was one which he advised against, he still says he’d rather be remembered as being a good politician and PM who gave Britain a choice that many didn’t think would take place. That I agree with, however it can’t be helped that he seems to be using the public as a scapegoat for the backlash in his possibly final aired words. Newspapers have taken the news as a chance to publish his legacy as a bad one, The Independent even stating he was ‘the worst in 100 years’.
