I haven't written on here since the 21st of May 2018, A LOT has changed since then. I started at the BBC with my show 'Hello Friday' in August 2018. It was so exciting, I'd finally got a break; my way into the industry. I met my co-host Joel Mitchell and we were thrown on air straight away. I had no prior radio experience and I never realised how lucky I was to get this opportunity until after I'd started broadcasting. So many young people dream of becoming a radio presenter, and there's me, no presenting experience, just a smile on my face and a jokey personality. Yet it was enough to catch the attention of senior producer David Markwell. Fast forward a Halloween special, a Christmas special and now we're in July 2019 - time for TRAMLINES FESTIVAL! The highlight of my broadcasting career. It was incredible, Joel and I broadcasted live for 3 hours straight in Hillsborough Park and I even interviewed Circa Waves (fangirl o'clock). I remember after the Hello Friday Tramlines Special came to an end, Joel and I tried to get on the tram alongside thousands and thousands of festival goers and it was so hectic. We were running round left, right and centre trying to find a tram with enough room to squeeze two extras in there. Joel & I in front of the BBC sign at Tramlines 19/07/2019 Joel & I posing for with our lovely BBC Radio Sheffield Tramlines branding. After Tramlines, my fervour for radio only grew. I decided to shadow at some of the main radio stations; BBC Radio 1, BBC Newsbeat, BBC Radio 5 Live & Heart Yorkshire. I even got asked to take part in 2019's SHEFEST where I spoke up about my insecurities and what it's like to be me, alongside iconic BBC Radio Sheffield presenters Paulette Edwards, Kat Harbourne & Jenny Eells. As you can imagine, I was feeling like I was on my way up in the industry. I was so ready to visit so many more stations, take part in more events, then COVID 19 hit. My show was put on pause and it felt like all my dreams came crashing down in the space of 5 minutes. Although it wasn't said to me like that at all, I like to overthink (well I don't like to - I just do by accident - a lot). I got so bored in lockdown right, that I started up a food blog and now have over 1.3K followers on my gluten free socials @thecoeliacqueen...now do you get how bored I was? A few months passed and then finally, the call I'd been hoping for. "You're coming back on air". My 3 hours on a Friday night were gone but in return I was now the newest BBC Upload presenter on BBC Radio Sheffield, with 2 nights to myself! I was ecstatic to be back on air. After having so many months of withdrawal symptoms from my favourite place - BBC Radio Sheffield, I decided I wanted to get back out there and interview people before I stepped foot back in the studio. At the end of June 2020, my first ever episode of 'In Conversation with Colton' hit YouTube. I had created a brand new filmed interview series, featuring up and coming musical talent from all over the UK. The series is promoted through Sheffield's famous Reyt Good Magazine and I am so lucky to have support off the publication and my good friend Carl Maloney. Filmed in Sheffield's iconic Botanical Gardens, I knew I wanted to give artists in the music industry the chance to have a voice and promote their music, after months of feeling unmotivated and confused due to lockdown. The music industry did not stop because of COVID 19 and I wanted to prove that by giving the limelight back to so many amazing people. I am currently on episode 13 but plan to be up to 20 by December. But we don't stop there, oh no, you see, I like to keep myself entertained just as much as I like to entertain people. So I wanted to get a job in journalism after finishing my journalism degree in April this year (don't get me started on how most of my final year was done from home). I applied to become a journalism lecturer at The Sheffield College, I never thought I'd get it, although I throw myself into everything I do, the doubt in my mind always seems to poke its head out when I least need it to. The interview came and went, it went well I thought, but there must be others with much more experience than me. So imagine how surprised I was when I got the call to say I'd got the job! What now? I thought. I work for the BBC, I have my degree, I am now a journalism lecturer, I have my own interview series...PING..my phone goes off. A twitter notification off DJ & Producer Andy Jarvis. He wants me as his co-host on Power Radio! Now, I can't say no to anything, but I don't want to! I almost bit his hand off virtually, he explained we appeared likeminded because I show myself as motivated and hardworking through Twitter. Born out of mine and Andy's head came #futurecreatives. Andy and I soon realised we want to take our pairing further than Power Radio, so we've decided to start up our own podcast. Andy & Ellie's Positivi-TEA will air for the first time in November 2020 and we can't wait to share our show with you all.
