I wrote this for The Indiependent "I have been on a strict gluten-free diet since I was fifteen. No, it’s not for Instagram. No, it’s not to be a hipster. I do it to survive. I'm Coeliac.
The gluten-free diet has been labelled a fad by far too many people who don’t understand what it is. It’s not their fault though, given the proliferation of articles; eat gluten-free to lose weight, how going gluten-free will make you healthier, celebs who swear by the g-free diet. It makes me want to scream. There is a dangerous cross over between dietary preferences and dietary needs and it makes people a lot less likely to understand my condition." It's the 8th of February 2021 - I completed by first ever shift as a 2nd producer for Mid-Morning on BBC Radio Sheffield today! I've presented on the station since 2018 but I'm so grateful to have now been given the opportunity to learn the skills from behind the studio screen. I'd completed three production 'shadow' shifts in preparation for this and I was worried I wouldn't get it right today - but I did.
I can't wait to hopefully look back on this post in a years time and hopefully be a producer whizz by that point. I never believed I'd have the ability to train as a producer and yet here I am. I recently wrote an article for The Yorkshire Post detailing tips for graduates feeling sad they are out of work, and I advised people to 'ignore self-doubt'. Time I took my own advice :) So She Slays is an Instagram platform with over 640K followers (correct as of 08/02/21). They exist solely to share the stories of empowered women in a plethora of industries.
For my piece, I interviewed Stars of Bang Bang Romeo - the Doncaster band supported P!NK on her worldwide Beautiful Trauma Tour in 2018. I also spoke with Sheffield band The Seamonsters who set the Tramlines stage on fire with their talent at Hillsborough Park in 2019! Last but not least I chatted to Imogen from the Manchester band Novustory who are absolutely killing it in the industry right now. I wanted to know how their treatment has differed depending on their fame and where they are from. I wrote an opinion piece for The Yorkshire Post titled "my top tips for graduates out of work". My mum ran out the house to buy 3 copies of the paper, she was super excited. I'm over the moon with it! Read it in full via this link: https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opinion/columnists/my-top-tips-graduates-out-work-ellie-colton-3122764 February 4th 2021 Yes The Indiependent, not to be confused with The Independent! I am so excited to have finally broken into the freelancing world. My first two articles for So She Slays (see posts below) come out early Feb, and I've just pitched my first story for The Indiependent. I can't wait to post all my articles in my 'Commissions' category at the top of my website. So keep your eyes peeled :)

My first piece will go live Feb 8th ft these incredible women: Stars from BANG BANG ROMEO 🌟 Imogen from Novustory🌟 and The Seamonsters🌟 It’s all about female experiences on the way up in the industry❤️ EDIT: my 2nd piece will be out on February 16th ft Maggie Szabo, Savanna Darnell and Chanel Yates! EEEEK! Excited doesn't cover it. So pleased to be able to structure my life better these days! It means I can push out weekly content. Currently in the middle of filming a huge Christmas vlog, but before that comes out, have you seen my recent chat with Chanel Yates? We sat down in Sheffield's Botanical Gardens to talk all the important things; like going on tour, having fans, new music, liking Dolphins, drinking gin, superstitions & crystals :) Meanwhile, I've also been doing some festive cook ups :) See below my new gluten free sausage roll tutorial with a Christmas twist :) They were so delish! Chicken sausages with extra thyme, rosemary & garlic powder, all wrapped up in GF pastry with a bit of red onion chutney :) Not only that - the second episode of Andy and I's POSITIVI-TEA Podcast is out today! It's called 'Bloating My Goat' - all will make sense soon :) This weeks theme was weird talents and party tricks, and boy did you tell us some freaky ones! To have your 'cup of positivi-tea' featured on the show, whether it's just a moment that has made you smile, or it fits in with the theme. Contact us: we are @andyandellieuk on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. We are at [email protected] too :) Oh, and we had a long conversation about naked twitter & strip poker, it was very funny - ENJOY! Studying at Sheffield Hallam University between 2017 - 2020 was a lot of fun for me. They took a lot of interest in my extra curricular work whether it be print journalism or broadcast with radio. They even wrote an article on my progress - I've just found it now so though I would post :) Click the link below:
I decided I would start a food blog up during lockdown. Which then became website (thecoeliacqueen.wordpress.com). Which then became a YouTube cooking series! I've currently made 4 episodes, check out my second ever video where I make a disaster of a gluten free lemon meringue for my mums birthday! Luckily it didn't ruin her day :) |
